I am an accredited therapist with an Advanced Diploma of Remedial Massage, Bachelor degree in business management and marketing, Certificate IV in personal training, Level one in Mat Pilates instructor, Myofascial cupping and trigger point dry needling.
Having survived a car accident 20 years ago as a pedestrian, I succumbed to chronic back, neck, hip and knee pain. I vowed to learn how to heal my conditions and maintain optimal health with the help of a team of allied health professionals.
Over the past 11 years I have studied and learned how to combine my skills and knowledge of remedial massage, personal training, Pilates, dry needling and myofascial cupping to offer the most effective soft tissue treatment and self care (stretch and strengthen).

BHSC Musculoskeletal Therapy
Karen is a bachelor qualified musculoskeletal therapist and remedial therapist .She specialises in core stabilisation and hip injury rehabilitation, also treating chronic and acute injuries and helping release postural and fatigued bodies from daily activities.
Her mantra is : “ Find the restriction, work the cause and let the body find new connections to heal its system.” If every body is singular why follow a standard way of treatment? She strongly believes that patient and therapist need to work together to achieve the best outcome.
Benefits of Remedial Massage
One of the immediate benefits of massage is a feeling of deep relaxation and calm. This occurs because massage prompts the release of endorphins, the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that produce feelings of wellbeing. Levels of stress hormones, such as adrenalin, cortisol and norepinephrine, are also reduced. Studies indicate that high levels of stress hormones impair the immune system.
General benefits of remedial massage:
- reduced muscle tension
- improved circulation
- stimulation of the lymphatic system
- reduction of stress hormones
- increased joint mobility and flexibility
- improved skin tone
- speedier healing of soft tissue injuries
- heightened mental alertness
- reduced anxiety and depression
Benefits of remedial massage for sport and posture include:
- Reduce the duration of DOMS (Delayed Onset of muscle soreness)
- Improved alertness and sports performance via increased circulation and reducing the duration of lactic acid build up of muscles.
- Treats and maintains the formations of trigger-points in muscles, which are caused by repetitive overloading/overusing of muscles, which can lead to neural impingement if left untreated.
- Lower risk of occurrence and re-occurrence of sport injuries (sprains, strains and cramps)
- Treatment and management of posture abnormalities by softening/lengthening short tight muscles, and strengthening long weak muscles (best achieved with regular exercise, and core control techniques or Pilates)
- Using Dry needling and myofascial cupping together with advanced soft tissue manipulation techniques will highly enhance all the above benefits.
Remedial massage combines any of the following techniques:
- Deep tissue massage
- Sports massage
- Myofascial cupping
- Trigger point dry needling
- Trigger point release technique
- Positional release technique
- Muscle energy technique
- Lymphatic drainage
- Self care stretches and strengthening exercises
The right choice in Remedial Massage
Involves assessing and physically treat myofascial pain, injury and dysfunction affecting movement and mobility. Myotherapy is applied in the preventative, corrective and rehabilitative phases of therapy to restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structure (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) of the human body.
Pain or symptoms caused by muscle (myo) or fascia is described as myofascial. Myofascial pain is usually not specific and is often described by the patient as a ‘deep ache’, ‘tightness’ or ‘tenderness’ in an area. It can vary in intensity and radiate to other areas. Other symptoms can include reduced range of motion of muscles and joints, stiffness, fatigue, weakness, numbness or a tingling sensation. There are many other symptoms depending on the condition and patients can have one or many symptoms.
Common conditions that Myotherapy can address include:
- Sporting & occupational injuries
- Stiffness & pain associated with poor posture
- Associated joint & vertebral dysfunction & pain
- Acute & chronic conditions affecting function & mobility
- Scoliosis / Kyphosis
- Headaches / migraines
- Acute and chronic stiff and painful neck
- Chronic overuse syndromes – tendonitis, RSI, tennis/golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel
- Acute & chronic back pain / ‘sciatica’
- Shoulder pain, impingement syndrome, frozen shoulder
- Hand & finger numbness / tingling – thoracic outlet syndrome
- Knee, leg & foot pain – shin splints, patella tracking dysfunction, runners knee, ankle sprains
- Arthritis / Multiple Sclerosis
- Pregnancy – pre/post natal complaints
- Chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia
- Pain & dysfunction associated with stress & tension
- Rehabilitative stage of an injury or illness
Benefits of Dry Needling
Dry needling can relieve a range of musculoskeletal problems through the insertion of needles into taut and contracted muscles, or trigger points, with the aim of restoring their proper functions. It is relaxing and therapeutic procedure that can form part of an ongoing remedial massage treatment, and is suitable for conditions such as back and neck pain, sporting injuries, and discomfort caused by poor posture.
Dry needling seeks to relieve the pain caused by musculoskeletal dysfunction through relaxing muscle trigger points — these are taut bands that develop within a muscle that can occur in cases of both acute and chronic pain. Trigger points may develop in a muscle as a result of stresses such as poor posture, repetitive actions, or emotional trauma, and can refer pain and create dysfunction in other parts of the body, including severe headaches.
The process of dry needling involves a solid filament needle being gently inserted into the painful part of the muscle (the trigger point) so as to relax or release it, with the aim of permanently reducing the associated pain and discomfort and restoring the imbalances caused by the muscle feeling taut and contracted.
Inserting a needle into the trigger point creates what is known as a twitch response which means that the muscle is having a healing response to the stimulus and the chemical imbalance that created the trigger point in the muscle is being rectified. This then leads to a decrease in tension, enabling the muscle’s normal functions to be resumed.
In some cases, a needle being inserted into a trigger point muscle can cause a slight ache, but there is no sharp or excessive pain, many patients do not feel the needles being inserted at all. After a dry needling session, patients may feel a little tired, but there are no lingering effects and most people are able to continue with their day (including playing sports) as normal.
Benefits of Myofascial Cupping Works
in conjunction with Remedial Massage
in conjunction with Remedial Massage
Cupping passively stretches tight muscles resulting in increased range of movement, increases blood supply/heat to area treated, increases fluid movement which assists in muscle recovery, increases nutrient-rich blood supply to injured area, thus speeding up injury recovery.
How Myofascial Cupping Works
It creates a negative (tension) pressure which:
- Passively stretches tissue resulting in increased ROM
- Increases blood supply/heat to area treated
- Increases fluid movement which assists in recovery (ie. decreased edema)
- Increases nutrient-rich blood supply to injured area
Conditions that respond to Myofascial Cupping Therapy:
- Poor Circulation
- ITB Syndrome

"I'm pleased to have an opportunity to provide a testimonial regarding my treatment by Trent Hamdjah. My first session with Trent was my first experience with Dry Needling. Treatment was for an ongoing sciatica problem. Improvement was evident immediately and even more so by the following morning. After the second session a week later, I experienced further improvement. Trent took as much time as I needed to explain the treatment and its benefits. Throughout my treatment he was constantly monitoring both my reaction and the effects. I'm pleased to recommend his services to anyone with similar issues to myself."

“Trent came highly recommended by my friend after her treatment, and now having experienced these amazing results for myself I absolutely agree! Prior to seeing Trent, I used to get standard massages for my shoulders and back – every 2 to 3 weeks or so, mainly due to stress, the results were good but only lasted a very short time before I would need another. Then I saw Trent and he suggested I try needling and cupping. Having never had this done before Trent made me feel really at ease with his charismatic personality, while his technique and knowledge shined through his effortless approach. I literally walked away feeling like a new person! And most importantly the results have lasted! Thank you Trent! ”
I have a slight thoracic scoliosis and a tricky pelvis which results in a lot of pain at times. Trent has helped me a lot. He has a good understanding of the bio-mechanics of muscles. Now I am able to run and do activities I couldn t do before. Thank You so much Trent .
"Wanted to share the experience I've had while seeing Trent for treatment. Having gone through long periods of pain and discomfort Trent not only helped ease the pain immediately but looked at where and how the problems occurred, giving advise on how to correct the things that cause discomfort. I find Trent to not only be friendly but incredible at his job I would recommend anyone to go to Trent not only if they have discomfort but to help avoid it. "
"I have been to many remedial massage therapist in the past for shoulder and neck tension however Trent has exceeded my expectations. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to anatomy and mobilization and has significantly reduced my symptoms with deep tissue massage, cupping, stretching and education. Trent is a very caring and passionate therapist and I would highly recommend his services "
"Hi guys, I just want to say a big thanks to Trent for keeping me rolling during a big training block on the bike! "
I have been seeing Trent for around 3 years now and he has always been able to tune up my body when I've needed it the most - especially before my Triathlons and Crossfit comps. He is able to pick out all the nasty knots and tight spots and fix them up with dry needles, cupping and deep tissue massage. Trent is very professional, has a deep knowledge of human movement and uses all of his skills and knowledge to ensure your treatment works for you. Thank you again Trent for fixing up my shoulder on Wednesday! I was able to clean and jerk a pb of 45kg in today's Crossfit comp without any pain in my shoulder or arm!
